Renewing Your Relationship With Christ
Many people ask, "How can I have a closer relationship with Christ?" Consider this analogy. It is entirely possible for you to have a friend but not feel friendly toward him any longer. This would make sense because friends do drift apart, and friendship is not a steel band which holds in spite of everything.
Christianity is something like that. Being a Christian isn't getting bound by an unchangeable force. It is more like a friendship in that it is a relationship with Christ that has to be cultivated. Take away friendly actions and you don't hold onto friends. Cease treating Christ like He is real and He soon will not be real.
Some hints. Prayer is a must. Prayers are the short snatches of conversation which keep you in touch with spiritual reality. No one will ever mean very much to you to whom you do not talk. A prayer of recommitment is a good way to renew your fellowship with Jesus Christ.
You can't totally neglect the Bible and expect a vigorous faith. It's the only source book about God. You'd lose touch with the world of events if you never read newspapers. It is a similar thing with the world of the spiritual.
There is no substitute for worship. Stay away from anything long enough and you won't care much about it. Worship is a place where people talk about Christian things. If you care much about Christian things, you'll get in on it.
The subject has to come up sometimes in conversation. What you like you talk about. And what you talk about you like better. So once in a while you just have to find a way to let the matter come up when you talk to someone else. Strangely, this may very well be what the word "witnessing" is all about.
Put Christianity to work. The proof of anything is in action. Act on what you believe and it is thereby real. You have just done something about it.
